1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Cooking can be fun and help both parties bring back memories whilst increasing confidence and independence. Our classes aim to support both people with dementia and their carers.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

As long as we know in advance, we can be very flexible to make sure any potential challenges can be avoided or managed.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Awareness raising for staff

Ensure all staff, attend a dementia awareness raising session

  • Review environment of premises

To identify possible issues for people living with dementia. Make changes which are feasible and ensure staff awareness of those which are not so they are able to help visitors within the premises. We have updated our booking forms so cooks can make us aware of dementia. As cases arise we can have a chat ahead of the clases to ensure their needs are accommodated.

    Being implemented
  • Specific awareness of environment.

Relating to colour and style of table cloths, cups and saucers to aid people living with dementia in avoiding spills.

    Being implemented
  • Ensure local carers are aware of quiet times in the school when they may prefer to visit.

Less noise can make the environment easier for people living with dementia. We have added a comment on our website highlighting that a 1-2-1 tuition may suit some.

    Being implemented
  • Info point with details of local support services.

Tie up with local DAG to ensure this information is current.
