1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We will work towards greater awareness, understanding and on-going staff training to help better support our customers. We aim to provide excellent customer service and to support a dementia friendly environment within Seasons Café and Restaurant.

By developing a better understanding in helping those with dementia we hope to gain further recognition as a great place for customers with this condition along with their family and friends to visit and have an enjoyable experience.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We recognise this would be an on-going project with continual development and awareness. Although challenging in organising and implementing staff training, awareness and building confidence; we will no doubt grow overtime to achieve our objectives.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Awareness and Dementia Friendly Customer Service

All staff and volunteers to become a Dementia Friend by undertaking a Dementia Friends information session or by watching the Dementia Friends Film.

Establish a dementia champion to be our ‘go to’ person for dementia and responsible for ensuring that we carry out this action plan and review our actions annually.

Dementia awareness to be included in the staff induction process for all new staff.

All staff to be made aware of the free online Scie Dementia eLearning Modules.

Customer Facing Staff Guide to be circulated to, and read by, all staff members.

We will look at the dementia friendly resources on the Dementia Action Alliance website and Alzheimer’s Society website.

  • Dementia Friendly Environment

We will review our premises against the dementia friendly environment checklist. If improvements are needed then a plan of action will be formulated to investigate and potentially eliminate obstacles to the environment if not conducive to people with dementia.

  • Publicity and Encouragement

We will proudly support the Dementia Action Alliance and will encourage other organisations to do so, such as publicising our involvement on social media, attending and promoting DAA events, and if possible allowing our premises to be used for DAA events.
