1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We will train our core staff in dementia awareness. Take an active part in the setting up a Dementia Friendly Market town. Encourage staff to be Dementia aware with the goal of improving the quality of life of people living with dementia and their carers by creating a supportive environment in store and within our community.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Raising awareness in store and making changes without cost implications.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Aware Raising amongst employees

We will ensure that all our employees become Dementia Friends to increase their understanding and knowledge of the disease which should in turn hold them in good stead when dealing with any customers displaying the symptoms.

  • Coin Charts

We will keep a coin chart at each till to help aid any customers that struggle to distinguish between their change and in turn give them back a sense of independence.

  • Guide for Customer Facing Staff

We will keep a copy of the 'How to help people with dementia: A guide for customer-facing staff' in the staff room for our employees to refer to on occasion

  • Environment

We will use the enivironmental checklist to check our store in terms of being dementia friendly, and make any changes where feasibly possible.
