1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We would like to ensure that our all our employees in branch have a heightened level of dementia awareness through becoming Dementia Friends. We are keen to make our branch as dementia friendly as possible through ensuring that we correctly deal with customers who are affected by the disease and put measures into place that will assist our customers and offer them a sense of security and confidence when visiting our branch.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Our aim is to raise the awareness around dementia not just within our branch but our community, ensuring we provide the correct, friendly and supportive service to all that come into our branch. We want to make sure that everything is done in the right way, as well as protecting our customers that may have dementia when they see the team.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Awareness for Staff

    Ensure all Barclays employees attend a Dementia Friends session to enable them to feel confident when approaching and assisting someone who may have Dementia and their carer.

  • Floorwalker

    To ensure we always have a member of staff walking the floor and keeping an eye out for customers who may be struggling. This enables us to assist them and give time, support and understanding for those customers that require it.

  • Coloured Cards

    We will have coloured cards available to customer who have dementia and / or are visually impaired so that they can distinguish which cards they can and can’t use. Red for ‘Don’t touch’ and blue for ‘Spend’.
