1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
We aim to provide a person centred, friendly, patient service to people with dementia and their carers. We aim to adapt the environment in the hope it will assist people with dementia and their carers using the space.
We will have a permanent space for free literature at eye level aimed at people with dementia and their carers. We aim to seek out information so that we can provide a bespoke service to all our visitors including people with dementia and their carers.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
The building is listed so adapting the environment has its limits.
Funding issues.

Environmental changes
At present people often ask where the toilets are, so this could cause anxiety for people with dementia and possibly their carers.
We will create clearer signage at eye level in the main corridor for our public toilets as well as in the toilet cubicles with visual and text instructions how to use the flush system.

To create a quiet space for people with dementia and their carers to go
The quiet space will be a place that is comfortable and private if members of the public are feeling anxious.
This space will most likely be on the 1st or 2nd floor and may not always be the same room on a day to day basis due to meeting/education etc. bookings. This is something I will need to discuss in more detail with my line manager.

Display local dementia services and support information
To create a permanent, up to date area with literature on dementia services in the area and create an awareness in the town that we are a dementia friendly space.
I have already discussed this with my line manager and he has agreed to this, so I will now source appropriate literature to put in this area.
