Waitrose Bracknell

Our ultimate aim is to deliver an outstanding Customer Experience to our Customers when shopping in our store. We also extend this in our Community work, forging strong relationships with local businesses and organisations. Each Waitrose store donates £1000 a month between three local organisations through our Community Matters Scheme, aswell as this, each Branch is also able to donate 250 hours a year to volunteer in the local community.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

To raise awareness of Dementia within the Branch, equipping our Partners with the knowledge and skills to support our Customers with their shopping whilst allowing them to feel safe and independant throughout their experience in our Branch.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Ensuring that the Waitrose and John Lewis reputation is protected at all times and the level of service remains constistent even in challenging periods.

2. Actions

  • To raise awareness of Dementia Friends to our Partners

We have 15-20 Partners trained at present. Ideally we would like 50% of our Partners to be trained in Dementia Awareness, including all Managers and the Security Guard. This would ensure that there is support available throughout the trading window across the whole week.

We can also invite Dementia Friends Reps in to the Branch to raise awareness with our Partners, displaying information in our Dining Room so Partners can read the information and know who to go to if they would like more detail.

  • To become a Dementia Friends Champion

We would like two Partners to attend a Champions day to become Dementia Friend Trainers, this will allow us to train both established Partners and new Partners as part of our induction process and also share the awareness across local Branches.

    New member action.

  • To support and build relations with local Dementia groups

To make contact with groups within the Bracknell Forest community and build relationships. Organise visits with local groups and send Branch representatives to meetings to promote Waitrose as a Dementia Friendly business and highlight what we can do in Branch to support our Customers to ensure they have a safe and successful shopping experience with us.
