1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

The village store provides services to the community of Thurcroft, we know our customers and in many cases their families too.

I understand that two thirds of people with Dementia live in the community and that the numbers are increasing.

It is important for people to feel safe and welcome in the community ,we can help this happen by being understanding and learn more about the difficulties a person with Dementia may experience .

 

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The shop may be busy and it may be more difficult to engage with someone needing help and support

The person with dementia and or their families may be embarrassed or in denial about their relative having dementia so the offer of support may be rejected

2. Actions

  • Dementia Awareness

    I will increase my knowledge about dementia and sign up to be a Dementia Friend and I will watch the handling money video clip

    I will encourage tolerance  and the need for others to gain more knowledge about dementia to others who visit my store

    I will have knowledge and information about local support services and I will tell people about services every time I feel it is appropriate

  • Promotion of Rotherham Dementia Action Alliance

    I will tell other organizations about Rotherham Dementia Action Alliance and encourage them to get involved
