The Nest Cafe and Gallery

The NeST comprises of both a Gallery and Café so you are able to indulge in both art and cake. The Gallery has a large collection of artwork, crafts, books, house hold and everyday essentials that you can not only view but purchase. After spending some time exploring our art pieces, why not venture into the cosy café for some fresh home made food, hot and cold drinks, and we even serve a wide selection of alcoholic beverages.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Improving staff awareness and understanding of dementia, thereby having a good customer service ethos and training for our staff.

By enabling people living with dementia to be part of the community by making them feel welcome within our Gallery and Café.

Have a willingness to respond to the individual’s needs and help/support them when we can and it is reasonable for us to do so.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Raising staff awareness and being able to spot the signs of Dementia so we can accommodate customers living with the disease.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Friendly Menu

We will have a plain white menu with clear black writing for those customers that have Dementia to enable them to independently read the choices on offer

    Initial Scoping
  • Dementia Friends

We will ensure all our staff are Dementia Friends so that they can spot the signs of Dementia and improve their understanding of the disease to better assist our customers affected by it.

  • Environment

We will ensure that the Gallery and Café are as Dementia Friendly by implementing some of the items from the ‘Dementia Friendly Environment Checklist’ where possible.

    Initial Scoping
  • Coin Charts

We will endeavour to have coin charts placed throughout Bede's World to assist those that may have difficulty to distinguish between coins and enable them to maintain a level of independence.
