1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
As a high street based hair salon we aim to provide a welcoming environment for people with dementia and their carers.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
Whilst we have good signposting in our salon, we are a bit limited by the steps and tight access to our salon, which means we cannot accommodate wheelchair users.

Dementia Awareness raising for staff
Ensure all customer facing staff are dementia aware. Every 3 months we run a Dementia Workshop for new staff at the beginning of the program

Embed the Concept of ‘Dementia Friendly’ within the business.
As part of our staff health and safety / induction training, we will include dementia awareness as mandatory.

We will continue to provide extra time for appointments for clients with dementia and others who would benefit from extra time spent on them

Appoint a Dementia Champion
One or two of our salon team will be attending a DF Champions training session in 2015 so that we can deliver our own Friends sessions for our staff

Fundraiser
Our Christmas 2015 fund-raiser (usually Christmas Jumper day / Cake sale) will be dedicated to funds for Dementia-friendly Alton
