1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

As a focal point in the village we are well placed to offer a safe and relaxing environment to shop. One where people with Dementia and their carers are met with understanding from the team of volunteers who will all be dementia friends

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We have 30 volunteers we are finding it difficult to arrange a time when everyone can be available to do Dementia Friends Sessions.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Awareness raising for staff

Ensure all staff and volunteers attend a dementia awareness raising session

  • Dementia Friendly Service

As the staff and volunteers become more aware of how to assist someone living with dementia we hope to be able to support them to find what they need in the shop enabling them to enjoy a relaxing shopping experience. We hope to become part of Milford’s family tab system.

    Being implemented
  • Dementia friendly environment

We are looking at our flooring and exploring new door mats which will help people’s perception of where they are walking into.

  • Dementia Action Group

We have 2 of our regular volunteers on the committee of Milford on Sea Dementia Action group. They bring back idea of ways we can help people engage in community life through the community shop

  • Inclusion of people with dementia

We are looking at ways we can involve people with dementia in our community through volunteering in the shop. This will hopefully empower people with dementia and recognising their contribution to our community.
