1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

To make our buildings accessible to those living with Dementia, including:

  • Providing Dementia Friends training to our frontline staff
  • Participating in the Safer Places scheme
  • Running reminisce sessions
  • Providing memory boxes
  • Redesigning the physical aspect of our buildings to that barriers are removed
  • Introduction of Books on Prescription

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

  • Financial restrictions in the current economic climate
  • Time and capacity to manage projects and train staff
  • Shifting priorities to ensure sufficient time/resources are available

2. Actions

  • Evaluation

    A robust evaluation of what we currently do to demonstrate that we are making a difference and to show value for money, and to encourage other/future funding.  This process will identify where there are gaps and areas for improvement.

  • Awareness

    To ensure that our facilities, including staff, have sufficient, up-to-date material available to raise awareness of Dementia, including training and development, providing books on the subject, hosting talks, developing action groups/community groups and developing intergenerational projects.

    Communicating what we are doing to ensure that events and activities are well attended and the wider community is aware of the changes we have made.

    To ensure that we remain up-to-date with national policies, initiatives and best practice to provide the best possible approach to support people living with Dementia

  • Applying best practice

    Ensuring that current best practice is adopted to make facilities barrier free and as accessible as possible to those living with Dementia when changes are made to:

    • the fabric of a building
    • building interior
    • signage
    • staff procedures, protocols and policies
    • equipment, including computers
