1. Action Plan

Whilst caring for our residents with different forms of dementia, Cherry Blossom actively supports family members, carers and various dementia charities throughout the year.  

2. Actions

  • Dementia awareness training course.

    ll staff in the home, in every department will undertake a dementia awareness training course.  This will be part of new staff induction and also refresher courses for existing staff members.

  • Memory Lane Community - 50 point checklist.

    Cherry Blossom provides one of Barchester Healthcare’s memory lane communities for dementia nursing care.  Barchester have a 50 point checklist to ensure that it meets these standards for dementia care.  These include: individual room indicators and memory boxes, pictorial and coloured signage on bathroom and toilet doors, reminiscence items to create positive memories, various tactile sensory items and rummage baskets.

  • Dementia talks and information sessions

    Cherry Blossom regularly holds talks and information seminars from healthcare professionals and dementia experts to support our resident’s families and other carers in the community.

  • Supporting dementia charities and carers support groups

    Cherry Blossom actively supports and fundraises for various charities including Dementia UK, The Alzheimer’s Society, Age Concern and Andover Mind.

  • Venue for carer’s support groups and training

    Cherry Blossom’s facilities have been utilised by charities, notably carer’s support groups as a free venue to meet on a regular basis.  It has also been utilised by Carer’s Together support groups, free legal clinics and we hope to provide a regular group for the Princess Royal Trust for Carer’s in Hampshire.

  • Involvement of residents with dementia in community events

    Cherry Blossom has a full time activities team for their residents.  As well as the various activities undertaken internally in the home, Cherry Blossom residents are often taken out on trips to join in with local community events.  The minibus trips encourage greater community engagement with our residents with dementia, supported by the activities and care staff who accompany them.
