We are an independent Private Hire Company providing local and national services. Our drivers and staff reflect the diverse community of Leeds, which we believe enhances the quality of our work. We have a well established provision for vulnerable children and adults including people with dementia. A number of our customers use our service to help maintain their independence. These contracts extend from Leeds City Council Social Services, NHS/Private Hospitals and nursing homes, community organisations, eg. Leeds Jewish Housing Association and Leeds Jewish Welfare Board and hospices. We have a strong commitment to the wider community by providing support for Free Kit For Schools, Physcap and regular support to a variety of organisations such as nursing and residential homes.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our services are regularly evaluated by our Business Manager through direct conversations with individuals and organisations. This enables us to gain feedback so that we can make changes and improve our service where necessary. We will focus also in the coming months on the needs of people living with dementia to establish how we might enhance their experience. During 2015 we will promote this through offering dementia training to our drivers and staff.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We will need to explore whether some modifications to our booking system need to be addressed. We currently have a range of options: telephone, email, app systems. A text system for people with sight and hearing impairments was developed some time ago. We may need to review our software and website provision to maximise provision.

We have a variety of payments methods but will seek advise on the most appropriate method for carers as we are aware on occasions there are problems.

    We will continue conversations with our clients to gain feedback and will work with Dementia Action Alliance and Jubilee Partnership to improve these.

    We currently have a specific text service for people with partial sight and hearing problems, we will review this to establish if it can be adapted for carers.
