1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Marks and Spencer are already leading the way in delivering a training pack this year for all staff to receive and have the opportunity to become a dementia friend.

This has allowed our staff to have more awareness of the condition and to notice if any customers are showing signs where they may need extra help.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Making the time to deliver the training in a very busy environment would be a challenge.

Ensuring staff understand the principles once the training has been given.

2. Actions

  • Plan monthly update

    On communication board in store ask for people who have not become a dementia friend to see me to receive training. If i commit to a training session once a month I will capture all new starters.

  • Complete dementia champion training

    2 people in Upminster  M&S will attend the dementia champion training day 3/10/2014. Who will then have a better understanding on how to help some of our customers and to continue to raise staff awareness.

    Invite someone into shop with dementia and learn from that experience what we can do as a store to become more dementia friendly.
