1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

My organisations role is to educate both students and members of staff to ensure they are aware of dementia, the signs and symptoms and understand how they may help.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Thus far, there is very little awareness of dementia, this is something that we feel we need to improve on.  We would be able to achieve our outcomes by educating students though assemblies, our pastoral programme and by developing a new strand of Student Voice to improve the awareness of dementia across the whole school.

2. Actions

  • Assemblies

Deliver assemblies to enhance awareness of dementia (approximately 700 students)

  • Dementia Ambassadors

Establish a group of students to work on initiatives to develop the awareness and understanding of dementia.  This would be an additional strand to an already large and active Student Voice.  Our members would be Dementia Ambassadors.

  • Bespoke Training

Invite Dementia Forward to Harrogate High School to deliver bespoke training to students.  Share findings with members of staff during staff training.

  • Dementia Ambassadors

Dementia Ambassadors work on initiatives to raise awareness of dementia across the school.
