1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

To ensure that our facilities are accessible and safe.

To ensure that our staff are suitably trained in being dementia aware and assist people who may be in need of assistance.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

To understand and be aware of what people with dementia need to make their lives easier.

2. Actions

  • To ensure that staff and where possible councillors are trained in dementia awareness

We will facilitate basic Dementia Friends’ training for our staff team, using either our own internal ‘Champion’ resources or those of the Lymington Dementia Action Group (LDAG)

  • Helping create dementia friendly events

We will ensure that event organisers who are supported by the Town Council are considering the needs of those people living with dementia at the planning stages of their event.  This may involve liaising with the council’s dementia ambassador or with the LDAG to ensure those people with dementia and their carers feel encouraged to attend

  • Providing dementia information

We intend to create areas around the town where dementia advice and information is accessible for the general public as well as those who don’t have access to the Internet.  These will be placed in highly visible locations and kept up-to-date regularly.  We will provide some space within the Town Council boards already sited around town to point to this dementia information.  We will link our own websites to key websites carrying dementia information
