1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We deliver a high level of care through Moorside our dementia nursing home with a 2:1 nurse resident ratio, our staff are committed and highly trained in all aspects of dementia care.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Changing the general publics perception of life within a dementia care home. More public awareness of our work with the field of dementia and recognition by Winchester of this historic charity within the city centre which is delivering high level support to the most needy of it's community.

    Ensure all staff attend a dementia awareness raising session.

  • Respite breaks

    Supporting the carer to assist their continuing physical and mental well being.

  • Day Centre for people with dementia

    A weekly day centre, providing activities and outings for people with dementia within the community, within a purpose built home and with the supervision of highly motivated staff.

  • Training support to local businesses

    We would be happy to share our knowledge by providing an annual training day to the businesses of Winchester.

  • Links to schools, colleges and the unversity

    To introduce the younger generation into our care environment, to increase their understanding of dementia.

  • Volunteering Opportunities

    Offering volunteering opportunities to local people via Do-It.org, to share the experience of working with those with dementia.

  • Winchester Dementia Awareness Day

    If feasible the charity would like to host with Dementia Friendly Hampshire, an annual Awareness Day in the town centre, to share the charities work, knowledge and skills in dementia care with the local community and those with dementia.
