1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

The Halifax is committed to helping all in our communities dealing with Dementia by raising awareness and understanding of the condition, raising huge sums to support The Alzheimer's Society and also improving our procedures and products to ensure that we make dealing with their finances as simple as possible.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The publics trust in the Banking Industry has been damaged in recent years and so our involvement in local community matters may not always be welcomed. We have however made huge changes in every area of our business to ensure that trust is rebuilt . We have shown in recent years that we can provide both financial support and promote public awareness to worthy charities.

  • Dementia awareness raising for staff

    Ensure staff, especially all customer facing staff, attend a dementia awareness raising session.

    All products are transparent and easy to manage with full support from branch staff.

  • Fundraising events to promote awareness & financial support

    We will hold Bake Sales and other local events to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society and discuss the issues the illness raises.

  • Dementia friendly premises

    Review premises to look at ways the environment could be more dementia friendly ie: clearer signage/lighting

  • More staff present in banking hall.

    We will ensure we always have at least 2 staff members in our Banking Hall to assist with any enquiries and provide support for those dealing with or supporting those with dementia.
