Havering Over 50’s Forum (HOFF)

We are an organisation dedicated to providing information and friendship to the people of Havering. To assist in empowering the Over 50’s in Havering to have an effective voice within the Community To ascertain the latest changes taking place inside and outside the Borough that affect the over 50’s. To campaign to improve the quality of life of the over 50’s helping them to maximise their potention to live fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We intend to

  • Provide information/education with regard to dementia.
  • Raise awareness
  • Refer and encourage by our Forum meetings and Outreach events


2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

  • Some Community Groups and Faith groups do not recognise the challenges of dementia .
  • We do not believe Carers roles are fully appreciated
  • To encourage health professionals to provide early diagnosis as it has become clear that there are over 2000 people in this Borough undiagnosed.

2. Actions

  • We will promote of the needs of people with dementia and their carersthroughout the Borough.

    We will use our membership and contacts with other organisations in the Borough to promote greater understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers in Havering.

    We will also use our website and Newsletter and also our presence at Outreach events through the Borough to do this.

    We run monthly forum meetings where representatives of other community groups meet wherewe have speakers on all aspects of health and social care. We will include information on dementia in our programme.

    We will work with other organisations within Havering to promote the work of the Dementia Action Alliance and the needs of people with dementia and their carers.

    We are providing an opportunity for the Alzheimers Society Havering to have a presence at the Havering Show in August.
