Plymouth Dementia Action Alliance

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Viewhear is a small company with the core member of staff being the founder of the company. Project teams are made up of a range of freelancers who could be given a dementia awareness session.

Viewhear can also use its business to business networks to help increase awareness and encourage larger enterprises or more customer facing enterprises to become dementia friendly.

As a video communications company, Viewhear is able to support the creation of awareness of dementia to the wider public and also raise awareness of the support offered to those with dementia across the city.

Viewhear can use their social media accounts to interact with their client base and other peers in the marketing and communications industry to share Dementia Awareness content across our networks.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Viewhear needs to attend Dementia Champion sessions in order to pass on dementia awareness knowledge to their freelancers and business to business networks. Combined availability could be an issue for freelancers.

Viewhear does not have the office space to invite in all freelancers and networks for dementia awareness sessions

Viewhear at present is not in the position to produce full non-funded Dementia Awareness videos.

Viewhear needs to accumulate more  easy to understand Dementia Awareness content to give effective support to awareness creation through social media.

2. Actions

  • Raise awareness of dementia across Viewhear's range of freelancers and strategic partners.

Viewhear founder and the lead producer will arrange to attend a Dementia champion work shop so they are able to invite their freelance team members and strategic partners to a dementia awareness session.

  • Increase dementia awareness across the commercial sector through Viewhear's business to business networks.

Once the Action One has been completed the next stage would be to host a networking event where a range of local businesses would be invited to understand more about dementia. We would work with the Dementia Action Alliance to create an effective event and that the attending businesses could build on take forward their own action plans. As members of the Chamber of Commerce and the networking group “Network Plymouth” we can also work with chamber staff and Network Plymouth representatives to create useful events.

We will also support the creation of vital links between the Action Alliance and other networking groups around Plymouth in which we have good contacts.

    Initial Scoping
  • Increase awareness of Dementia and support offered to those with Dementia across the wider public.

Viewhear offers the Action Alliance 2 hours of free filming time to capture the activities and support offered by a memory cafe session. This can be used by the alliance members across its social media networks.

    Initial Scoping
  • Use social media accounts to share Dementia Awareness content across our networks.

Viewhear will produce a social media plan for themselves. Once Action 3 is completed and we have worked with the Action Alliance to complete a comprehensive portfolio of content, we will implement our social media plan.
