1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

GH will increase awareness of dementia via dementia champions both amongst our staff and tenants, increase the number of dementia champions, develop events programmes within our sheltered schemes to encourage dementia friendly environments. We will take account of expert advice in design of housing when updating and developing our older persons properties, and extend our telecare offering suitably for people with dementia. We will also work with partners to develop a range of initiatives and tools to support people with dementia and their carers and provide practical solutions to improve the health and wellbeing of people with dementia and their carers i.e. via the moneywise team, web site development.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Availability of finance both in terms of buidlings and development and in terms of contracts via local authorities for support services. As with all organisations, staff time and competing priorities means discipline and leadership are required to ensure actions are achieved.
