1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our role in our community is to encourage shopkeepers and other businesses to be aware of the needs of peopel living with dementia when they enter their establishments. We do this by delivering a booklet for customer facing staff and ask that all staff read it. We return after a week and offer any establishment that has read the booklet and wants to help any customers with dementia a window sticker to show that they are dementia friendly.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Our main challenge is staff turnover and making sure that all new staff are encouraged to be dementia aware. We try to revisit shops on a fairly regular basis to ensure that the dementia friendly ethos is maintained.
