1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
We are committed to helping people become and stay active and healthy. Are goal is to create a place where everybody in the committee can come and enjoy the benefits of physical activity, or simply come and meet to enjoy the social side of leisure.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
Our main challenge will be working with the current building design, layout, signage and equipment. The building is around 40 years old, and despite a number of refurbishments, the main lay out of the structure remains a challenge.
Staff awareness of the difficulties for those people with dementia will also be a challenge to us, although one which can be over come by training and education.
Dementia Increase awareness for staff
Ensure all customers facing staff; attend a dementia awareness rising session
We will identify and train at least one Dementia Champion who will act as point of contact and deliver ongoing awareness to staff.
Dementia Friendly Environment
We will take into account the needs of people with dementia when renewing signage, seating, flooring etc.
Promote Alton as a Dementia Friendly Venue
We will promote our venue as being dementia friendly and encourage people with dementia and their carers to use our facilities. We will use our website and other means of communication to achieve this and will take into account each person particular needs wherever possible
Offer Membership discounts
We will offer membership discounts to those who are referred to us via a GP referral and discounts for those on income support, job seekers allowance, registered disabled who live in East Hants.
We already run a number of activates through our health and fun club, and have a regular strong and steady group who meet at the center.
