1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We aim to provide information to designers, owners and end users on the importance of designing interior spaces that aid function and use, this includes the wants and needs of those with dementia and their carers. We provide a lunchtime presentation on designing environments that help provide positive outcomes for those with dementia. In addition to providing factual information we hope to help them engage, learn and understand more about the lives of people, with dementia and how small changes can make a big difference. This presentation has been approved by RIBA, so that when presented to architects,it will fulfill part of their CPD requirement. We are planning a research project on acoustics and links with dementia and in advance of this will carry out a literature review of existing guidance and information in this area. All our staff have an awareness of dementia and those who work with designers have a knowledge of useful design details and designing acoustic environments to help support and act as a knowledge source when working with architects . We are members of our local dementia action alliance and hope to develop closer links with local organisations.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Ensuring guidance and information on the impact of design and the noise environment reaches architects, designers and end users. Cost of research. Base and validity of existing information that is sometimes conflicting.
