1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

The purpose of the West Malling Dementia Forum is:

  • To transform the quality of life of people with dementia and their carers through promoting the National Dementia Declaration
  • Increasing awareness and understanding of dementia
  • To encourage community support through local businesses, professionals organisations and groups, making West Malling a friendly community
  • Breaking down barriers and helping remove stigmatisation.
  • To support those with dementia, their families and carers, ensuring they are heard and can gain the help they need.
  • Working towards the actions agreed and by the group

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Challenges will include:

  • Making ‘Dementia’ Relevant to various agencies and businesses
  • Time allocated for staff attendance at awareness sessions and at meetings
  • Communications, getting the information to the more isolated members of the community and making sure that the communications are appropriate
