Immanuel Church

Immanuel Church through its outreach project FACE (Family and Community Enrichment) offers events and services for older people and vulnerable adults in Southbourne. It runs Carers’ Support Groups, Computer skills workshops, an all day event on a Wednesday and also Dementia Friendly Communion Services.A new support group for bereaved carers has been launched recently.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Enabling people living with dementia to be part of the community and continue to do daily and social activities.

 Responding to the individual’s needs and offering support.


2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Getting the message out to people in the community that we are here to provide support and friendship.

2. Actions

  • Support Carers of family members with dementia

    We provide 3 groups to support carers, an afternoon group (often with a speaker), an evening group with a social emphasis and an afternoon group to support bereaved carers.

    Being implemented
  • Dementia Friendly Services

    We are holding a monthly mid-week service that is dementia friendly. A 30 minute service with traditional hymns and communion followed by tea. Open to all but especially those with dementia.

  • Information sessions with Dementia Friends

    Information sessions will provided at the church and in the community by a Dementia Friends Champion.
