1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists a number of outcomes that we are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our specialist team in Sheffield are dedicated to assisting people with Dementia, Alzheimers, other mental health conditions and also those that have suffered a brain injury.

We assist not only by ensuring our clients and their families are fully aware of all the legal options available to them following the onset of dementia or after an injury but also act as professional attorney or deputy as required. Where family members are appointed as an attorney or deputy we are able to assist them in all administrative matters surrounding their role.

As part of our service we also offer assistance with regard care and issues surrounding funding and have a specialist department dealing with care and funding matters, leaded by our Austin Thornton.

We offer a national service and act for clients across England and Wales. In doing so, we pride ourselves on our commitment to our clients and in ensuring we are able to put our clients’ minds at ease.

We endeavour to deliver our service in a down to earth, reliable and consistent way. Peace of mind is paramount.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We work closely with organisations such as Solicitors for the Elderly and other third parties to ensure that our services and those in similar fields are publicised through various channels to offer those that require legal assistance the knowledge of what can be done and who can assist.

Our Lynne Bradey and others at our office provide presentations to third party groups and charities to ensure there is sufficient knowledge of what can be done legally.

It is often difficult for our clients to obtain good, down to earth and specialist legal advice in this area. We would like to continue to grow our network of contacts both nationally and also locally, to include being involved in the Rotherham Dementia Action Alliance Legal steer-group.
