Just Toes

My Practice is to help dementia clients receive a safe and calming experience to have a basic toenail trim. This supports good mobility.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Delivering good health care is paramount to someones wellbeing. If someone is having problems with their feet , this impacts greatly on their mobility and in turn mental health, something as simple as having to long toenails can impact greatly.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

COV-ID makes it very difficult- however I have my Covid certificate of safety and all the relevant PPE.

  • Dementia Friendly Distraction tool

    I am aware that it can be traumatic for someone to have their feet touched and procedures carried out, I will always try to reassure and use distraction tactics suitable for the person I will talk slower and clearer I will warm tools before commencing to lessen any shock or irritation I will explain each action before commencing- where possible try to engage and encourage them to remove their own shoes and socks if they are wearing them I will use tool such as twiddle muffs , photos, - what ever is a comfort to them as a distraction tool
