1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
We provide culturally appropriate care for people with dementia, and will continue to improve awareness of dementia in the Tamil community.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
The main challenge is cultural cultural barriers towards accepting a diagnosis of dementia, as well as time constrictions on top of other work.
Staff to become Dementia Friends
Carers and other staff will become dementia friends.
Increase Dementia Awareness Among Tamils
Local Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator will speak at a meeting of the day centre for older Tamil women. Managers of Happy Family Care are also going to spread the word about the Merton Dementia Action Alliance to other Tamil community organisations.
Refer to Alzheimer's Society Services
Happy Family Care will refer service users to Alzheimer's Society services when they have a diagnosis of dementia or any questions about dementia.
