We are a domestic service company who are consistent, trustworthy and reliable for those in need of a helping hand. We offer house cleaning, laundry & ironing, companionship and shopping. From 2020 we will be dementia friendly.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We believe people can live well with dementia. With our services we could take that added stress off the carers/family with cleaning, then they can support the person to continue to do the activities/hobbies they enjoy. If they enjoy cleaning we can support them to clean, all our products are ego friendly. We offer companionship too, so would could support them with activities in the home such a jigsaw puzzles, knitting or maybe a spot of gardening. Aa an organisation we see the person first not the dementia. Are staff members are now dementia friends which is associated with Alzheimer's society and we have 2 dementia champions.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

From day to day families find it hard to come to terms with family members being diagnosed with dementia. Sometimes they often do too much for them thinking they can no longer do it. We can offer dementia information session to help them understand dementia and how to support their family members

  • Staying Positive

    We don’t see dementia as a negative. We believe it’s important to stay positive as this can have an impact on the person living with dementia. We would never talk about people with dementia as if they are not there or talk to them as you would to a child. We could also help you focus on the things you can and want to do, rather than the things you can’t do. So we could support you to make a cup of tea or make a bed, even do a jigsaw puzzle. All our staff have a positive attitude towards dementia which reflects in their work

  • Reliability

    Being reliable is so important and we take it very seriously. We remind our staff all the time the importance of this and how much our services help those in need of a helping hand. We pride ourselves in be reliable

  • Communication

    The best way to help a person living with dementia, is being able to communicate with them. A person with dementia may not understand what you are doing or remember what you have said. We would treat them respectfully by addressing them in conversation as well as any family member or carer who might be with them. Some of the way we would do this is: Body language and physical contact .We would make eye contact b .We would Make sure that your body language and facial expressions match what you are saying .We would never stand too close or stand over someone to communicate .We would never cover our mouths When we are talking to a person we would: .Speak clearly and calmly .Use short, simple sentences .Speak at a slightly slower pace .Avoid speaking sharply or raising your voice When having a conversation we would listen carefully to what the person is saying, and give them plenty of encouragement. If we haven't fully understood, we would tell the person what you have understood and check with them to see if we are right

  • Trust

    We believe gaining trust is important, for the person with dementia and their family. Are staff are DBS checked. Before any service is provided we go and visit the person/family members, sit down, have a chat and get to know them. Its important for us to find out if they have any like/dislikes as we want them to get the best possible service and wouldn't like to cause any upset by doing something the person dislikes
