Norwich Pride

Norwich Pride is a celebration of the LGBT+ community for everyone. Our vision is to turn Norwich into a rainbow. Our mission is to live in a city where everyone feels safe and proud to be themselves. Our job is to organise the Norwich Pride celebrations which includes a Parade through the city, on the last Saturday in July. We are a grass-roots, volunteer-led organisation.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We are particularly interested in the needs of LGBT+ people with dementia, and their carers. We are joining the Norwich City Dementia Action Alliance to improve our awareness of dementia and look at ways in which we can support people who come to Norwich Pride who have dementia. We will promote our membership of Norwich City Dementia Action Alliance on our website and through our social media channels, and include information about dementia support on our Access Page.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The main challenge is time - we are volunteers balancing work, life and caring responsibilities, and we organise one of the 5 biggest events in the City's calendar. We are passionate about being accessible to all so are committed to being as dementia-friendly as we can be, within our resources.
