1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We can support people living with dementia by being patient and understanding, making customers feel welcome and relaxed making their experience enjoyable by offing reassurance and being friendly allowing more time and communicating clearly communicating with family members where possible to understand the person's needs

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

As a small shop, we have little space for a customer who needs quiet if the shop is crowded We have only one staff member on duty at any time Access is not easy for all as there is a step entrance and we only lease part of the premises

  • Train as dementia friends

    We will train all staff as dementia friends

    When we next refit we will seek and entrance mat that has a slight pattern rather than the current 'black hole'

  • Place of safety

    If a person is distressed we will support them by providing a friendly place to sit and help them contact family or appropriate organisation
