West Berkshire Dementia Action Alliance
Aims
West Berkshire Dementia Action Alliance is aiming to improve the lives of people living with dementia in West Berkshire. To do this we plan to :
- Continue to further develop dementia friendly communities for people with dementia, their carers and families
- Work collaboratively with voluntary and statutory services, businesses and the wider community
- Seek membership from businesses, services, individuals and organisations in West Berkshire
- Assist in the formation of other Dementia Action Alliances
- Establish and maintain effective support through signposting and information sharing networks
- Ensure that the voices of people with dementia, their carers and families are heard and guide the work of the West Berkshire Dementia Action Alliance
- Raise awareness of dementia across local communities
- Encourage the whole community to become Dementia Friends
- Work towards necessary improvements to enable people with dementia and their carers to live independently in their community for as long as possible
Meetings
Steering group meetings are held quarterly. If you would like to attend one of these open meetings then please get in touch for dates, times and venue.
Projects
- Establish and develop volunteer led Dementia Friendly Community Forums in key towns and villages across the district
- We have undertaken consultations in and around Newbury, listening to the views of people living with dementia and their carers, families and friends on how they feel their community could become more dementia friendly.
- Delivering Dementia Friends awareness session run by local Dementia Champions.
- Booklets with information for customer facing staff on "How to help people with Dementia".
- Production of a Dementia Directory of services and activities for people living with dementia
- Production of a quarterly Dementia Newsletter
- Establishing new social activity groups for people living with dementia and their loved ones
How to join
We would like groups, organisation and businesses to sign up and put forward action plans to improve awareness of dementia within their community. We can help to create individual achieveable action plans to enable your community to be more dementia friendly. Examples of other communities action plans can be seen on the website.
