Committed to transforming the lives of people with dementia and their carers
Wakefield and Five Towns Dementia Action Alliance is committed to making a difference for people with dementia, their carers and families.
To achieve this vision we will encourage and support:
- businesses
- public sector organisations
- voluntary sector organisations, charities, community groups
- schools and colleges
- local communities
to become more dementia-friendly.
Our focus is on:
- raising awareness
- promoting positive attitudes
- dispelling myths
- tackling stigma
- empowering people to play a full and active role in our communities for longer, living well with dementia.
How to Join the Wakefield and Five Towns DAA
Any organisation in the Wakefield and Five Towns area that wants to change the lives of people living with dementia can become a member and get involved locally.
Membership:
- is FREE of charge
- involves supporting the National Dementia Declaration\Call to Action:
The National Dementia Declaration\Call to Action is based on 7 'I Statements':
- I have personal choice and control or influence over decisions about me.
- I know that services are designed around me and my needs.
- I have support that helps me live my life.
- I have the knowledge and know-how to get what I need.
- I live in an enabling and supportive environment where I feel valued and understood.
- I have a sense of belonging and of being a valued part of family, community and civic life.
- I know there is research going on which delivers a better life for me now and hope for the future.

- involves completing a simple Membership Application\Action Plan document (you can download this, below)
Members will be invited to attend meetings (roughly every 2 months) to hear about innovations and best practice, share their experiences, learn from fellow members, network and work together to create a dementia-friendly Wakefield and Five Towns area.
We also provide:

- a Twitter feed - @DAA_Wakefield
