Shepton Mallet

Shepton Mallet is a Somerset Market Town with a long and interesting history. Today some of the recent changes in the town have fostered a pride in the town with an incresing awareness of community and a desire to work together for the town community.

With a population of around 10,000, which is set to increase still further, it has large and small businesses, supermarkets, chain stores and much appreciated family businesses.

Like many good things Shepton Mallet DAA has grown from a very small beginning.  A Care & Support session for people with dementia and their families and carers brought together very good organisations offering help, care, and support in the town and surrounding area.  It also brought an awareness of the increasing need for our town to enable those with dementia to live as full a life as possible.

  1. To make as many dementia friends as possible to enable the residents of Shepton Mallet to support people with dementia.
  2. To work with retail and other businesses to see how they can support people with dementia.
  3. To look at transport in Shepton Mallet and surrounding villages to enable people with dementia to gain access to community groups.
