Spelthorne Dementia Action Alliance

Background

The Borough of Spelthorne in the County of Surrey (South East England) is the only part of the county to lie north of the River Thames and was formerly part of the now dissolved county of Middlesex.

The number of people estimated to have dementia in Surrey is over 16,000 more locally in Spelthorne it is around 1,400.

The Spelthorne Local DAA has been created to raise awareness of the needs of all people affected by memory loss, including family members and familial carers.  These needs include the ability to remain active as far as possible in the community and this means a wide range of people need to know how to converse with, and help those with memory loss.

Aims

This Spelthorne DAA has identified the following priority areas

  • Businesses and retailers to be ‘dementia friendly’
  • Information on services and activities to be improved and assistance available in all neighbourhoods
  • Training in Dementia Awareness
  • Encouragement of groups working with those LWD through regular contact, information and networking.

Meetings

Meetings are held quarterly
