Yorkshire & Humber Dementia Action Alliance

The Yorkshire and Humber Alliance Dementia Action Alliance

The Yorkshire & Humber Dementia Action Alliance was launched in November 2012 and has since attracted interest from organisations working in the public, private and charity sectors across the region.

We are especially pleased to have secured the support of many of the emergency services in Yorkshire & Humber – and we are starting to receive commitments from retailers, transport operators, faith groups and tourist attractions – all of them recognising the importance of enabling people with dementia to play a full and active part in everyday community life.

We are also beginning to see the development of many local alliances – not just in the larger cities but also some of the smaller towns across the region.

The quarterly meetings we have now begun to hold offer organisations an opportunity to share their experiences of implementing more dementia-friendly policies and practices – and also learning about serious issues facing people with dementia and their carers such as doorstep crime.

The Yorkshire & Humber Dementia Action Alliance is also keen to campaign at a regional level on issues relating to dementia, using the power, influence and media contacts of member organisations.

Fundamentally, we are driven by the need to change attitudes to dementia in Yorkshire & Humber…. taking as our starting point the need to raise awareness and increase understanding.

Steering Group

The Yorkshire and Humber Dementia Action Alliance is governed by a Steering Group comprising members drawn from across the health & social care, local government, commercial and charity sectors.

How to become part of the Regional Alliance

Any organisation that operates in Yorkshire and Humber is able to join the Regional Alliance. New members must complete an Action Plan setting out what they can do to make a difference to people living with dementia. Members are invited to (but not mandatory) to attend quarterly meetings to share their experiences and they are encouraged to actively promote the work on the Alliance to their contacts.

There is currently no Chairperson for this alliance so if you have any enquiries, please contact dementiafriendlycomm@alzheimers.org.uk
