Jesmond Dementia Action Alliance

Jesmond Dementia Action Alliance (JDAA) was started in 2014 by a group of local people who wanted to make Jesmond a dementia friendly community.  This means a community that is inclusive and understanding of those affected by dementia.  We are keen to make Jesmond a place where those affected by dementia feel safe and confident to carry on with their daily activities and to live well for as long as possible.

We have three main objectives to achieve our dementia friendly visions and these are reviewed and updated each year.   Our objectives are: raising knowledge and awareness about dementia; promoting better awareness of support and services available for people living with dementia and their carers; developing a stronger voice for people living with dementia.  Our objectives are described in more detail here.

Many local people, businesses and other organisations have now shown their commitment to JDAA.  Individuals can become a Dementia Friend by attending a free information session delivered by local Champions.  You can sign up at Jesmond Library If you would like to attend a session or you can email your interest to dementiafriendlyjes@gmail.com.  You can also sign-up to attend a session via the Dementia Friends website at: www.dementiafriends.org.uk

Organisations can become JDAA members by making some simple pledges to make the way they operate more dementia friendly.

On the right you will find a list of organisations who have already signed-up - you can find out what they are doing by clicking on each one.  If you are a business, organisation or society and would like to sign up and work towards becoming dementia friendly then you can do so here

We will be holding a range of events throughout the year.  You can find details of these and keep up to date with other developments by reading our quarterly newsletters - see links below.
