Registered as a Demenita Friendly Community

History

South Gloucestershire Dementia Action Alliance was launched on 12 January 2015.

This new county-wide Alliance is funded by South Gloucestershire’s Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Council. It is based on learning from the successful 18 month pilot in Patchway to develop a Dementia-friendly Community there, which included the establishment of Patchway Dementia Action Alliance.

As with the Patchway pilot, Southern Brooks Community Partnerships employs a Community Development Coordinator to lead this Alliance. Read the Patchway DAA evaluation report.

Projects Undertaken

  • Dementia Awareness Sessions: We are delivering the Alzheimer's Society 'Dementia Friends' sessions across South Gloucester with a focus on Kingswood. It lasts an hour and is an informative session that introduces the issues around dementia and how you can help. Get in touch for more information.
  • Dementia Champions: We are aiming to bring together a group of trained Dementia Champions who will be able to facilitate Dementia Friends sessions across South Gloucestershire.
  • Dementia Toolkit website: We are developing a website providing information; our own case studies; and relevant resources on dementia awareness/inclusion.

  • Dementia Learning in Schools: We worked with Patchway Community College to introduce learning about dementia into their PSHE classes, and made a film together: “Lasting Memories”. With this resource, we encourage further projects in schools across South Gloucestershire.
  • Local Businesses and organisations: we will be working with customer facing businesses and local organisations to provide resources and information to support them to become dementia aware and create dementia friendly environment across South Gloucestershire.
