Harlow Dementia Action Alliance

Aims

The purpose of the Dementia Action Alliance Harlow Group is to:

Serve as a vehicle to facilitate people and resources coming together locally and regionally to improve the awareness of Alzheimer’s or related dementia

Follow the processes in order to be able to use the Dementia Friendly Community symbol

Provide support and training to local organisations and communities who wish to become dementia-friendly

Appoint Dementia Champions

Deliver training and share learning within and beyond Harlow to promote dementia-friendly communities everywhere

History:

Formed in 2013, the group came together to discuss local issues and unmet needs. The group is represented from several local organisations and works collaboratively to promote dementia awareness and dementia friends training. Members include:

Alzheimer’s Society

ASDA – Community Champions

Essex Fire Service

Harlow District Council

NEPFT Mental Health Trust

Princess Alexandra Hospital

Essex Police

Rainbow Services

Achievements:

The group has received  funding through ASDA, the Safer Harlow Partnership and  Essex Safeguarding Adults Board to roll out a Keep Safe Scheme in Harlow. It has co-ordinated Dementia Champions training, and Virtual Dementia Awareness training to local organisations.

Meetings:

Quarterly, held at the Enterprise Hub, Harlow. Sub group meet between these times to progress actions.
