1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
We are making an allotment available for use by people living with dementia and have taken steps to make it as accessible a possible by building raised beds and hard standing.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
We will continue to support the allotment project with advice, practical help on the building of a shelter and the occasional volunteer. Younger plotholders may not be aware of the problems of dementia, so we plan to hold a Dementia Friends information session at the allotment once the shelter is built and invite any members of the society.
Raised beds project
Having aready achieved the installation of a toilet and the building of raised beds surrounded by a paved area on a level plot near the entrance to the site, we hope to be able to help with advice and some voluntary assistance towards the installation of a shelter and the layout of the rest of the plot with grass and growing areas. The ambition is to make a pleasant place (in most weathers) for people with dementia and their carers to interact with nature and enjoy the pleasure of growing vegetables, fruit and flowers. We hope other plotholders will find it interesting and satisfying to interact with them and that WHAS will be able to provide ongoing support and assistance.
