1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

For all existing staff to become Dementia Friends and all new joiners to become Dementia Friends as part of their induction to the firm.Aspire to have at least one Dementia Champion in each of our offices.

To ensure our signage (for example with respect to toilets) in public area is dementia friendly.

By increasing awareness of dementia within the firm, supporting the existing culture of openness, so that employees feel able to discuss their concerns about dementia impacting upon their personal and professional lives.

To become active members of the DAA in Plymouth, Exeter and Torquay so that we can be utilised as a valued resource and contribute to the ongoing success of those organisations, where we can.

Link in with relevent organasiations and servies and update our website and  various media platforms with Dementia Friends news and updates. 

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Arranging for staff members to undergo Dementia Friends awareness sessions across the three office locations.

Ensuring that each of our offices (across the different locations) meets the varying needs of the different DAA in those locations.

2. Actions

  • For All Staff to Become Dementia Friends.

    93 (88.6%) of our employees became Dementia Friends in March 2016. We are now organising for staff that were not able to attend last time and all new joiners since that date to become Dementia Friends. The plan then is to have future new joiners become Dementia Friends as part of their induction.

  • To Talk About Dementia Openly within The Firm.

    By talking about dementia, the aim is to increase awareness of the condition within the firm and to support the existing culture of openness amongst staff members.

    Whilst the ethos of the firm is already in keeping with the aims of the Dementia Friends initiative; since the Dementia Friends information session when 88.8% of our employees became Dementia Friends, it has been commented upon by staff, how fascinating and moving it is to hear their colleagues talk openly about their experiences and views on dementia within the firm and how positive that feels.

    To be involved where possible in local fundraisers. We supported the Memory Walk in 2016 and will hope to do the same again at the next local event.
