1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Oomph!'s stands for 'Our Organisation Makes People Happy' and our mission is to support older and vulnerable adults to live as active a life as possible.

We do this by supporting care homes to overcome the barriers to getting out and about and help residents maintain links with the community by providing day trips on our fleet of accessible minibuses.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We work with care homes across the country and although their is a recognised need for finding solutions to get care home residents out of the home and attending community based activities and events there is often very little budget dedicated to it.

Another of our key challenges is educating homes in the benefits that residents living with dementia can gain from nature based activities and how our organisation can improve quality of life in their setting.

2. Actions

  • Keeping people connected to the places and passions that matter most.

We will support those living in care to maintain links with their local communities through regular outings that have been chosen based on their needs, wants and desires.

  • Support local businesses to become more accessible to people living with dementia.

We will work with a range of local businesses and destinations to help them to be more accessible to people living with dementia.

By making staff aware of the needs of our groups they will be better able to emphasise the parts of their service that will contribute to an engaging and meaningful experience.

  • Supporting residential services to create a culture of wellbeing for both people living with dementia and those that support them.

We will work hand in hand with care services to identify the strengths of their organisations and to develop the areas that would bring further benefits to residents and service users.
