Driftwood Cafe

Located close to the West Somerset Railway station on the sea front at Blue Anchor, with fine views out to sea and across the channel to Wales, the Driftwood Café welcomes all, including customers living with dementia and their carers. Residents and visitors alike appreciate our very friendly staff. We have been given excellent reviews on Trip Advisor.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our staff can continue to provide good service to all our customers including those with dementia or other memory problems and their carers, improving their own knowledge and awareness of dementia and its effects on daily living and also help other customers become more sympathetic.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The Café is in an old building accessed by a short flight of steps. It is very busy at peak times, especially in the summer. Wheelchairs can be accommodated in the garden, but toilet access is difficult.
