1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

The Angel Vaults is committed to being an integral part of Hitchin’s community, and we are always looking for new ways to engage with all our customers.

During the day a significant proportion of our customers are older people and we want to ensure that those affected by dementia can continue to enjoy the benefits of a visit to a friendly and familiar setting.

The Dementia Action Alliance will allow us to further enhance our engagement with our customers within Hitchin.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We are a very busy town centre pub so fitting in activities like these are always a challenge but we recognize the benefits for our customers that will come from them so will prioritize them .

  • Join and support the North Herts District Dementia Action Alliance

We want to support the local DAA and, through our membership and actions, to help provide the evidence it will submit to gain recognition for North Herts District to be recognised as “Working to become Dementia Friendly”.

  • Raising dementia awareness

All members of staff will attend a Dementia Friends awareness session to increase their knowledge about the condition.    This will provide them with the confidence and skills to communicate effectively with individuals affected by Dementia and their carers .

  • Dementia Friendly environment

When we next redecorate or refurbish any part of the pub we will ask our consultants to use the Dementia Friendly Environment Checklist to ensure that any new décor, colour contrasts, fittings or signage helps people affected by dementia
