1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our organization is commited to providing a easy to use and safe eMAR and care planning software for Care Homes. We provide 24/7 support to staff so if they run into any problems they will resolved quickly. Quality Resident Care is fundamental to our business and our software. The MED e-care system integrates and streamlines workflows, providing the right information at the right time to improve care-delivery decisions. Data collection, documentation and reporting – all accomplished with ease and ensuring maximum resident-care time and minimised computer time, with the focus on an organisation’s collaborative effort to provide the highest standard of care.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

There are many challenges that Care Home staff will face, such as balancing the workload of piles of paper work and looking after and spending time with the residents. Residents with dementia may find certain situatuions stressful and overwhelming, like medication administration time, so we aim to make times like these to go as smoothly as possible. MED e-care's founder and CEO Sheila CarrolI knows the challenges care staff may face. " I began my career as a nurse, working on the front line of resident care – and continually frustrated by the restrictions of manual documentation, inconsistency in reporting and the resulting impacts on quality of care. I was convinced there had to be a better way, so I started MED e-care"

2. Actions

  • Identify use of Antipsychotic medication in care homes.

Work with our pharmacies to ensure that they are sending full medication information to our system. If so, we are able to identify use of antipsychotic medication without the diagnosis of dementia. We would hope that by tracking all the medications administered on our system, care home staff will be able to recognise when the use of antipsychotics is needed and when it is not needed.

  • Smart assessments to build Dementia Centred Care Plans

Working with our clients to create a number of different risk assesments and other asessments which intergrate with our care planning software to ensure residents with dementia get the care they need. These assesments also help the care staff track which residents need more help with daily activities and how to help them in certian situations.

  • Flagging behaviours that may challenge

We are working with our clients to identify behaviours that may challenge with their residents. This helps us to make more person centred care plans and assesments, so that we can provide a fantastic care planning software to our clients and to keep improving it with every update we release.
