1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We would like our staff to become Dementia friendly.  This would help us provide a better service to those seeking legal assistance whilst living with dementia.  We have a busy Wills & Probate department who regularly interact with the elderly and we would like them to feel understood and to ensure our services provide them with the help that they need.  We would be willing to also provide a legal clinic for those who live with dementia to again ensure that they can access the services and help they need.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We need more training to help our staff to understand dementia and how to assist those who live with this.  This is especially important within our Wills & Probate team who regularly interact with the elderly and those living with Dementia.  It may also help us spot where a client has Dementia and help signpost them to other services that they need.  To enable us to do this however we need more information and assistance from Dementia Friendly businesses to ensure we send them to the right business that can help them properly and understand their needs.
