1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Part of our role is to raise awareness and understanding of dementia through communicating the stories of dementia within the media, within our company's owned media (social media and newsletters) and to assist our clients to do the same. We aim to provide support and advice to the DAA and assist them in raising their media profile and make sure their message reaches a wider audience.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The media is used to reporting about dementia in a certain way - stories often focus on fear and suffering. But this can be changed through providing compelling stories, that are accessible to the media i.e. not full of jargon, industry speak and crucially MUST have a news angle. We cannot shy away from creating headlines. If we want a fair voice to represent people living with dementia, then we must write our own headlines and be active in sharing them.

2. Actions

  • Capturing Industry voices on dementia through Arc Seven TV

Arc Seven TV is a series of thought leadership videos where leading thinkers within the sector or service users/patients/residents etc share their thoughts about the issues that matter most to them. We have already run a number of films that focus on dementia and we aim to add to this over the coming 12 months with new providers and people affected by dementia.
