1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Over the past few years, the members and officials of our fellowship at Mount Zion have become increasingly more aware of the role of the Church within the local Community, and have been seeking an avenue through which to reach out to the people of Pemberton.                   Since the Summer of 2014, we have embarked upon a number of initiatives in the context of providing a more versatile and welcoming environment, for Congregation and Community, within the Church Building, having undertaken  a programme of remodelling and refurbishment, in the hope to achieve our ambition of greater inclusivity for all.

Our plan is to offer, initially, a programme of activities, over 12 Sessions, of approximately 2 hours duration each, on a Monthly basis – on a mutually agreed day, in which attendees can take an active part.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Lack of volunteer understanding of dementia and expertise in dealing with dementia sufferers and carers. Although, Help and information sessions have been offered by Wigan Council (under the "Dementia Friendly Communities" initiative), Age UK and Alzheimer's Society.
