The Rotary Club of Tamworth Anker

Our club, the Rotary Club of Tamworth Anker, is, as the name indicates is part of the international Rotary movement. Rotary operates on a local, national and international level. We are a service club which supports various charities by raising money and being active hands on support. We mix this with a good social element. The age profile of our club is 55 plus with most of the 28 members retired. We are/were professional people, some professionally involved with people living with dementia, and many having personal experience of living with dementia.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

As an organisation that is effective in the community (and recognised nationally and internationally) we feel we are in a position to play an effective and important role in raising the profile of making the community more dementia friendly.

Getting other organisations to sign up would be one measure of effectiveness, but the true measure would be people living with dementia not feeling so under pressure from the condition, a lot of small steps.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The second sponsored walk is well into the planning stage, we have several other organisations involved in the event.

Our club has the time and the ability to achieve our aim. Many of us, also, have the knowledge of living with dementia and no doubt some of us will succumb to personally experience dementia.

The main challenge will be maintaining the momentum to achieve all our aims and dreams.
